Danny Poole is in his 15th year as Clemson's Director of Sports Medicine, and a veteran of more than 30 years working within the Tiger Sports Medicine Department. He supervises a department that attends to the athletic training needs of over 500 athletes and makes sure that in times of injury or illness that the athlete receives top notch medical care from a network of physicians and specialists. While Mr. Poole's primary sport is football, he directs a staff that consists of 6 full time athletic trainers, 10 graduate assistant athletic trainers, and approximately 15 student athletic trainers, that work collegially to serve all of Clemson's sport's teams.

Poole has more than 30 years of full time experience in the athletic training field. He has served as the head athletic trainer for the Carolina Chargers of the American Football Association in 1979. In 1980, he became an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Memphis. He came to Clemson University in January of 1984.

Danny is a graduate of Western Carolina University, with a degree in Health and Physical Education earned in 1979. As a full time athletic trainer at the University of Memphis he earned a Master's Degree in Health Education. As a student at Western Carolina University, Mr. Poole was published in the NATA Journal in 1979, for "The D.P. Method for Blisters".

Poole was honored in 2001 by his peers with the Athletic Trainer's Service Award. The award is presented by the National Athletic Trainer's Association to role models who are future leaders of the athletic training profession. In 2010, Danny was named President of the Atlantic Coast Conference Sports Medicine Association. He also serves on the Advisory Board for several knee brace companies.

In 2010, Poole was awarded the Fred Hoover Award of Excellence by the South Carolina Athletic Trainers Association. This is considered the Hall of Fame Award for SCATA.

Danny is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina and a graduate of West Mecklenburg High School. He is married to the former Beth Morgan of Clemson, South Carolina. The couple has two children, Jacqui Poole Rice, a Clemson graduate, and Abby Poole White, a graduate of Charleston Southern University.
