Overview: Will have opportunity to start in his freshman year after graduation of Carson Young and Austin Langdale…two-sport athlete at Lee Scott Academy in Auburn, Ala., he was quarterback of his high school football team and state champion on the golf team… the No. 35 junior player in the country according to the Junior Golf Scoreboard prior to coming to Clemson…two-time State Champion in Alabama, also won Alabama Amateur in 2016 and finished runnerup in 2017.

Fall 2017: Ranked No. 82 in the nation by Golfweek and 87 by Golfstat through the fall of 2017, his first fall of college golf…in many ways the surprise of the fall as he had eight of his 12 rounds at par or better while competing against a national field on some of the top courses in the nation…11 of his 12 rounds were at 75 or better…played in all four tournaments…four-under-par overall for the 12 rounds…finished with a 71.17 stroke average for the fall, second best on the team and just ahead of US Amateur Champion Doc Redman …finished third in his first college tournament with a 209 score, seven under par, at the Carpet Classic…had rounds of 70-69-70, he showed his consistency at the outset…finished 17th at Trinity Forest with an even-par 217 score…after a 217 at Nike Elite, finished at one-under-par at the Golf Club of Georgia…had 68 to finish the tournament and the fall in strong fashion…capable of going low, he tied Bryson Nimmer for first on the team in birdies with 49…had 69.75 stroke average in the final round of the four tournaments…had strong 4.62 average on par five holes and 4.04 figure on par four holes…led team in fewest putts per round at 29.92…drove it in the fairway 68 percent of the time and hit greens in regulation 68 percent of the time.

Summer of 2017: Began summer by finishing second at Alabama Amateur…actually tied for first at end of regulation, he lost on third playoff hole…had opening round 73, then had rounds of 69-66-66 to finish 14 under par 274…finished third at Future Masters junior tournament in June… shot five under par 205 after rounds of 72-66-67…finished 20th at the Dunes Club at Southern Amateur…finished eighth at the Azalea Amateur, he shot 66-67 the final two rounds…finished second at his US Amateur qualifier with 136 total…played in the US Junior Amateur and the US Amateur….qualified for match play in both, but lost in first round of both…Pettit and Doc Redman were the only Tigers to reach the US Amateur.

In High School: Alabama State Amateur Champion in 2016, he finished second after losing in a playoff in summer of 2017…won AISA Championship in 2016 and 2017…won the 100th Alabama State Amateur in mid June of 2016 with a 72-hole score of 278…..gained the one-shot victory at the Country Club of Birmingham…..two weeks later Pettit captured the Future Masters in Dothan, Ala. thanks to a six-under-par score 204, including a final round 66….shot 31 on his final nine to win the event…in April of 2016 he led his high school to the Alabama State Championship, as he won medalist honors with a 15-under par 129 for the 36-hole event thanks to scores of 64-65….Pettit was also the starting quarterback on the Lee Scott football team, he has helped the program to the state playoffs as a junior and a senior…named AISA to the All-Star game in fall of 2016…featured in Golfweek for his ability in two-sports in spring of 2016....played his high school golf for Todd Thompson and his high school football for Robert Maddox.

Personal Information: Born November 16, 1998…majors in sports communications at Clemson…home course is Saugahatchee Country Club…has one career hole-in-one, it took place in 2009 at Indian Pines Country Club in Alabama….son of Kelly and Kevin Pettit…signed with Clemson in November of 2016....family now lives in North Carolina.
