Clemson, S.C.—Ana Paula Valdes and Ashley Czarnecki had opening rounds of 73 to lead Clemson to a 299 team score and a tie for 14th out of 18 teams after the first round of the Landfall Tadition at the Country Club of Landfall Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C. The field includes nine of the top 25 teams in the nation.
Duke leads the team competition with an 11 under par score of 277, while second ranked Alabama is second at 278.
Clemson shot 11 over par on the back nine, the team’s first nine of the team, but all four Clemson counting players shot even par on the front nine to finish strong. Czarnecki led the team in birdies with four, while Valdes had two birdies and three bogeys. Both players are tied for 27th in the 96 player field.
Alice Hewson, Clemson’s top player for the season, had an opening round 75, but had two birdies on her second nine. Sydney Legacy, playing in her first tournament of the year after recovering from shoulder surgery had a 78 that included an even par second nine. Marisa Messana shot an 80 after scoring 40 on both nines.
