Volleyball Splits at Clemson Challenge Saturday

Volleyball Blanked by South Carolina

 

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team fell, 3-0 (15-25, 21-25, 17-25), to South Carolina in the final match of the Clemson Challenge in Jervey Gym Saturday evening. Freshman libero Madi Howell, who averaged 3.55 digs per set for the tournament, was named to the Clemson Challenge All-Tournament Team. The Tigers, now 5-7 on the season, will look to bounce back in their ACC home opener against Georgia Tech (5-6, 0-0 ACC), which is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.

 

The Tigers were led by Tori Woogk, who posted her second straight double-digit kill match, tallying 10 against the Gamecocks. The sophomore outside hitter took 22 swings and achieved a team-best hitting percentage of .364. Woogk totaled 12 kills, a season high, earlier in the day in the Tigers’ 3-1 win over Georgia Southern. Sophomore outside hitter Kaylin Korte added nine kills on 18 attacks to hit .278 against South Carolina.

Volleyball Tops Georgia Southern, 3-1

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers snapped a four-match losing streak after posting a 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20) win over Georgia Southern (2-6) Saturday afternoon in the Tigers’ second match of the Clemson Challenge. The Tigers, now 5-6 on the season host in-state foe South Carolina (6-4) at 7 p.m. in Clemson’s third and final match of the tournament.

 

Clemson was led by redshirt sophomore Annie Carter, who collected a season-high 12, while sophomore outside hitter Tori Woogk a tallied a season-high 11 kills. As a team, the Tigers hit .303 for the match.

 

Saturday’s nightcap against the Gamecocks will stream on ACC Network Extra. Live stats for Saturday’s pair of matches can be accessed on ClemsonTigers.com.

 

The first 150 Clemson students to attend Saturday’s match against South Carolina will receive free Raising Cane’s.
