Overview: Sophomore who has championship resume…played in two events in fall of 2017 and will challenge in the spring…helped Clemson to team victory at Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii in last event of the fall of 2016…his second round 67 was big in that victory…son of a PGA Tour professional…top 35 player nationally in his class out of high school….red-shirted the 2015-16 season.
Summer 2017: Highlight of the summer was finishing third at his US Amateur qualifier with a 147 score…finished 37th at Cardinal Amateur with 222 score…also competed in the Carolinas Amateur, Southern Amateur and North Carolina Match Play…had rounds of 74-75 at Southern Amateur.
2016-17: Starter in two tournaments in the fall during his red-shirt freshman season…played as an individual in the opening tournament at the Carpet Classic in Dalton, Georgia…had an improving tournament of 76-74-72 to finish 49th overall in the national field…did not play again until he was in the lineup at Ka’anapali…helped Clemson to the victory with second round 67, his career best so far….that was the best round of the day among the five Tigers and he kept the Tigers in the tournament…finished 50th overall with a 217 score, but that second round 67 made a difference in Clemson’s comeback victory…his 75 in the first round also counted…had 21 birdies in his two tournaments…had team best 2.92 stroke average on par three holes…hit fairways only 57 percent of the time, but hit greens 69 percent, one of only two Tigers with a higher GIR than fairway percentage….had 4.89 stroke average on par five holes.
2015-16: Redshirted the season at Clemson.
Summer 2015: Had strong showing in the North Carolina Match Play…shot 70-74 in the stroke play qualifying rounds, the two-over-par score of 144 was ninth best in the field…reached second round of match play, he beat Levi Grogan of Canton, NC 2-up before losing to Tanner Owen of High Point, NC, 5&4.
Before Clemson: Won the 3A-Team Championship in 2014 and finished third individually… comes to Clemson from Christ School in Asheville, NC where he played for Eric Thorp… ranked No. 32 in the nation in the class of 2015 by Golfweek, it also ranks him as the fourth best player in North Carolina...ranked No. 50 by Junior Golf Scoreboard and is No. 57 in the Polo AJGA rankings...won the 2013 Carolina Dogwood State Junior Championship with scores of 73-67-69...also had a top 10 finish that year at the IZOD AJGA Championship and the Joe Cheves Junior Invitational… placed second at the 2014 AJGA Puerto Rico Open and was seventh at the PGA Junior Series in Columbia, SC… named Asheville Citizen-Times’ 2014 Player of the Year… father, Jon Rector, is a PGA Professional at Biltmore Forest Country Club in Asheville, N.C.…son of Jon and Shea Rector who was born March 25, 1997 in Asheville, N.C.
