Bob Burns played tennis at Clemson from 1958-62. He was the South Carolina State Singles Champion and held the number-one ranking in the state from 1960-1962. While at Clemson, he was an ACC Finalist in 1962 and the South Carolina Collegiate Champion. In 1960, he became the first Clemson player to compete in the U.S. Open. He finished with a 60-11 career singles record.
After graduation, Burns went on to a career in the Navy. He was inducted into Clemson's Hall of Fame in 1988.
