Phil Hindson was named Clemson's Head Coach on June 16, 2009. Hindson will enter his sixth year at Clemson after a successful stint as an assistant Coach at Winthrop.

Hindson was a big reason Clemson advanced to the College Cup in 2005, a first for the Clemson program since 1987. Clemson was ranked third in the final coach's poll. In 2006, Clemson advanced to the NCAA's final 16, finished in the top 10 in both 2005 and 2006.

Hindson, a native of Perth, Scotland, and a graduate of William Carey College, was at Winthrop for four years.

During Hindson's four years at Winthrop, the Eagles had a combined record of 47-28-5, and a Big South Conference regular season and tournament championship in 2002. Winthrop also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history in 2002. That same year, Winthrop was ranked among the top 48 teams in the nation by Soccer America and ranked fifth in nation in scoring. The 2003 Eagle soccer squad was ranked as high as seventh in the NCAA South Region and 36th nationally.

While at Winthrop, Hindson was also the director of Discovers Soccer Club.

Hindson was a three-time all-conference, all-region and 1995 All-America selection while playing for NAIA top-ranked William Carey College. He still holds several scoring records at William Carey with 54 goals and 22 assists for 130 points in three seasons.

Prior to joining the Crusaders, Hindson made the final 50 players for selection to the U-18 Scottish National Team. He also served as an apprentice with the St. Johnstone of the Scottish Premier Division.

Hindson graduated with a B.S. degree in physical education with a minor in psychology at William Carey in 1999. He earned a master of science degree in physical education with an emphasis in health from Winthrop in 2005.

Hindson's professional playing experience includes a two-year stint with Arbroath F.C. of the Scottish Second Division from 1993-94. In 1995, he was a forward for the Nashville Metros of United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues. From 1996-97 he was with the Cocoa Expos (USISL) which reached the national tournament both seasons. He closed out his professional career with the Pensacola Flyers of the Eastern Indoor Soccer League.

He holds a NSCAA Premier Diploma and a Scottish Football Association "C" Coaching License.
