Clemson Finishes Second at Palmetto Classic

Kiawah Island, S.C.--Charles Warren and Jonathan Byrd finished in a tie for fourth to lead Clemson to a second place finish at the Palmetto Classic at the Osprey Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island. It was the opening tournament of the season for Clemson, who is ranked second in the nation in the preseason college golf polls.

Clemson shot an 855 team score, nine-under par, which is tied for the ninth best team tournament in Clemson history. Clemson had a 273 team score in the second round on Monday, one of the top five team rounds in Clemson history, but the Tigers had a 294 team score on Tuesday's final round. South Carolina won the event with an 845, 19-under par, while College of Charleston was third at 856.

Warren shot a 71 in the third round on Tuesday and finished at 212, four-under par. Dating back to last year, it was his fifth straight top five finish, and the 17th top 10 finish of his career. Byrd shot a 74 on Tuesday and finished at 212 to tie Warren and William McGirt of Wofford. Byrd had a 67 in the second round, the top round of his career.

Joey Maxon finished in a tie for 24th with a 218 total after a 73 on Tuesday. Elliot Gealy and Chad Starliper finished in a tie for 34th at 220, four-over-par. Gealy had a 67 in the second round on Monday, but shot a 79 on Tuesday. His 67 in the second round was the lowest of his Clemson career.

Clemson's next tournament will be the Ping Preview at the University Course at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque September 28-30.
