Harvey White quarterbacked the Clemson Tigers for three successful seasons in the late 1950s. Over this span he led the Tigers to the 1959 Sugar Bowl (7-0 loss to LSU) and the 1959 Bluebonnet Bowl (23-7 win over TCU) and a 24-8 record. His sophomore season he was named All-ACC and was a co-captain his senior season (1959). He also garnered recognition off the field as he was named to the All-ACC Academic team (1957 and 1958) and was a second-team Academic All-American as a sophomore. While at Clemson, White led the team in total offense during his sophomore and junior seasons. He was the first Clemson quarterback to complete over 50 percent of his passes for a career. White still ranks in the top 20 in several Clemson passing categories. He is 17th in yards (2,103), 16th in completions (145), ninth in passing efficiency (123.6), and ninth in touchdown passes (18). Following his Clemson career, White was the first ever player signed by the Boston/New England Patriots in 1960. He was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1981. |
