Jim Stuckey was a defensive line standout for the Tigers from 1976-79. He was one of the Tigers who helped Clemson turn the corner in 1977 when it won eight games and made its first bowl appearance in 18 years. Clemson went to a bowl game in each of Stuckey's last three years.

In 1979, Stuckey was one of the most honored linemen in the nation. He was a first-team All-American by the AP, UPI, Football Writers, and The Sporting News. He was also a 1978 and 1979 first-team All-ACC selection. In 1979, he was the Atlanta Touchdown Club, Southeast Lineman-Of-The-Year. He was also awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Richard Riley, the highest award given to a citizen of South Carolina.

At Clemson, he is the all-time career leader in tackles by a lineman with 314. Stuckey also has started more games than any other defensive lineman in Clemson history (40 games) and had 18 quarterback sacks in his career.

Following his Clemson career, Stuckey was selected with the 20th overall selection in the first round of the 1980 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He played with the 49ers from 1980-86 and won Super Bowl Champion rings in 1981 and 1984. Besides the 49ers, Stuckey also played with the San Diego Chargers and the New York Jets. He was inducted into the State of South Carolina Hall of Fame in 1995 as well as the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1996, he was named to Clemson's Centennial team.
