Playing Career

Overview: A top all-around student-athlete at Clemson...in addition to serving as Clemson's starting quarterback, he is only graduate student on the Clemson team this year...serves as president of LIFELINE, the football team's leadership organization that organizes the team's community service activities...named to ACC Academic honor roll for the fourth straight year, he has a chance to join Andye McCrorey as the only five time selection in Clemson football history...son of a coach, his father is the head coach at Gettysburg College in PA.....in addition to those off the field accomplishments, set four Clemson football passing records last year....became first Clemson quarterback to record a pair of 300-yard passing games in a season and career, there had been just one prior to last year when he threw for at least 300 against Wake Forest and NC State...listed as co-starter at quarterback with Woodrow Dantzler heading into the fall...had solid spring, he was 9-24 for 148 yards in the spring game, but had the best stats of the quarterbacks in the other two scrimmages...that included 12-22 for 222 yards on March 13...

In 1998: Returning starter at quarterback who threw for 1948 yards, second highest total in Clemson history...the yardage total was most ever by a Clemson junior...his 13 TD passes tied Mike Eppley's record for scoring passes by a junior...also completed 150 passes for the second highest figure in school history...showed improvement over the last four games of the season, he was 74-133 for 887 yards and nine touchdowns during the last four games...in other words, he averaged 18.5 completions in 33 attempts for 222 yards and two scores over the last four games...set Clemson single game passing yardage and completion record when he was 27-38 for 329 yards and three touchdowns against NC State in Clemson's 46-39 loss...his 329 yards passing against the Pack, set Clemson record for passing yards in a game, breaking the mark of 323 by Thomas Ray in 1965 against North Carolina...had the greatest fourth quarter passing performance in Clemson history when he was 12-14 for 176 yards and three touchdowns in the period...led Clemson to 303 yards of total offense in the second half of that game, he was 20-25 in the second half...threw for 13 touchdowns for the season, tied for the third highest total in Clemson history...had 319 yards passing against Wake Forest and became first Tiger in history to have a pair of 300-yard passing games in a career, never mind a season...hit 16-31 for 173 yards and two scores in the season ending win over South Carolina...also had season best 24 yards rushing in that game so he ended the evening with 197 yards of total offense...threw for 231 yards at Duke and two scores...threw for at least two TDs in each of the last four games...hit 13-22 for 191 and two scores against Maryland...got season off to great start with 11-14 for 183 performance against Furman, he had an efficiency of 188.4, highest of his career...started all but the North Carolina game in 1998...ranked sixth in the ACC in passing efficiency, he was fourth in total offense...fifth in the ACC in completion percentage (.531) and fifth in touchdowns...fourth in total completions with 150....

In 1997: Played in four games, one as a starter in 1997...took the Tigers 80 yards for a score on the first possession against #1 Florida State in 1997.....promptly took the Tigers 80 yards for a score on the first drive and culminated the drive with a 32-yard run for a touchdown...was 6-12 for 72 yards passing in that game and also rushed for 24 more, giving him 96 yards of total offense in the 26 snaps he played...suffered a shoulder injury in that game and the injury held him out the next four games...played in four games overall for the season...

In 1996: Saw action in three games for Clemson, including the first two games of the year...in for six plays each against Furman and North Carolina...saw action in three plays versus Maryland...was 1-2 passing for three yards in the Furman game...those were his totals for the year...threw the ball well during the 1996 spring game...had five completions on seven tosses for 101 yards, the most by a quarterback that day...

In 1995: Red-shirted the 1995 season....despite red-shirting, made travel squad many times and benefitted from experience in practice...

In High School: Rated as the 17th best overall prospect in Pennsylvania by Plyler's Football Recruiting Newsletter and 11th best QB in the eastern region...passed for more than 4,000 yards over his last two high school seasons and led his team to records of 12-1 and 10-2...as a senior, he completed 65 percent of his passes and had 19 TDs with only five interceptions...played for Sam Leedy at Gettysburg High School...averaged 17 ppg for Gettysburg basketball team...runs a 4.8 in the 40-yard dash....ranked in the Top 10% of his class with a cumulative 3.8 grade point average...won the Charles Huber Award for the outstanding athlete in the area as named by the Gettysburg Times...recipient of the Don Brean Award for the outstanding athlete at Gettysburg H.S...earned his undergraduate degree in health science...born New Year's Day, 1977.
