Marlon Edward Brown, or Bubba, came to Clemson from Loudon, TN, where he was not heavily recruited as a linebacker. As a sophomore, he had 120 tackles and was on his way to an outstanding career. In his junior season, he had a team-high 148 tackles and was a first-team All-ACC selection. Brown's greatest game was against NC State in 1978, when he had 18 tackles and earned National Defensive Player of the Week honors from Sports Illustrated. He also helped the Tigers to a victory in the 1978 Gator Bowl.

Brown graduated with a degree in industrial education and became a high school teacher and coach. He was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1999.
