Was used as a long reliever as a freshman in 2010 and during the first half of 2011, but he moved into the weekend rotation in the second half of the 2011 season...will compete for a starting spot in the weekend rotation in 2012, but also has the versatility to be one of the team's most valuable relievers...has been effective when keeping the ball down in the strikezone...in 97.0 innings pitched over 43 appearances (seven starts) and two seasons, he has a 7-3 record, three saves, and a 4.08 ERA while allowing 89 hits (.241 opponents' batting average) and 27 walks with 86 strikeouts...has a 3.19 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 2.51 walks-per-nine-innings-pitched mark...in 59.2 innings pitched over 18 appearances (five starts) in ACC regular-season games, he has a 5-2 record, one save, a 3.32 ERA, .228 opponents' batting average, and 54 strikeouts against 17 walks...only player on the 2011 team who had thrown a complete game in a Tiger uniform...only Tiger on the 2011 team from west of Saint Louis, MO.

State on Mar. 14...pitched 1.1 innings in relief, allowing one hit, no runs, and no walks to record the save in the second game of a doubleheader against Virginia Tech on Mar. 20...pitched 3.0 innings in relief, allowing three hits, two runs, and no walks with four strikeouts to earn the win against Georgia on Apr. 7...pitched a hitless and scoreless eighth inning at Duke on Apr. 11...pitched 3.1 innings in relief, allowing two hits and one run in the second game of a doubleheader against Florida Gulf Coast on May 2...pitched 2.0 innings in relief, allowing two hits and no runs at Maryland on May 8...pitched 2.0 innings in relief, allowing no walks with three strikeouts at Wake Forest on May 15...played for Oahu in the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League in the summer, where he was 4-1 with a 1.22 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 37.0 innings pitched over seven appearances (six starts); he won the Top Pitcher Award as the league's best pitcher and was the starting pitcher for the Makai Islanders in the All-Star game; named the league's #7 prospect by Baseball America.
