TUSCALOOSA, AL - Members of the Clemson women's tennis team will take part in the prestigious Roberta Alison Fall Tennis Classic hosted by the University of Alabama this Friday and Saturday. Beatrice Gumulya, Ani Miao, Romy Koelzer, and Tristen Dewar will participate in the tournament, which will have flighted singles and doubles play.
The Roberta Alison field includes players from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Michigan, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Samford, UAB and Vanderbilt. Of the 15 teams participating in the tournament, six of them finished in the top 25 nationally last season.
Match play is slated to begin on Friday at 9 a.m. CT with the first round of doubles followed immediately by the first round of singles. The second round of singles will be played after breaking for lunch. Saturday will also begin at 9 a.m. with the final two rounds of doubles and the last round of singles following a lunch break.
Sophomore Yana Koroleva is currently competing in a pro circuit tournament in Gainesville, FL, where she has charged into the main draw quarterfinals. Also alive in that tournament is recent graduate Keri Wong, who has advanced to the semifinals of the main draw in doubles with former Ole Miss Rebel Kristi Boxx.
