Sam Plonk became tutor coordinator in January 2013 after two and a half years as a learning specialist. Sam first worked in Vickery Hall as a strategic tutor while earning a Master of Education degree at Clemson University, which he completed in May 2010.
The South Carolina native grew up in Clemson and graduated from Daniel High School in 1998, after which he attended Lenoir-Rhyne College where, in 2002, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. Sam volunteered for two years as a cultural immersion coordinator on the border of Mexico where El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Chihuahua form the most populated international boundary in the world.
Upon his return to the southeastern United States, Sam discerned a call to further his education with the goal of using his gifts and experience to serve others. While working towards his Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Clemson, Sam sharpened his interest in holistic personal development and motivating others. The opportunity to apply those interests in a university setting drew him to the Student-Athlete Enrichment Programs.
Sam and his wife Elena are active members of University Lutheran Church in downtown Clemson. The couple welcomed their son, Nathan, in July 2012.
