SAN DIEGO, CA., May 9, 2018– Operation Hat Trick (OHT), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting wounded U.S. combat veterans, has recognized Clemson University’s outstanding efforts in aiding the recovery of wounded U.S. combat service members and veterans by naming the school a finalist for its 2018 Excellence in Service Award.  In recognition of the school’s impact, OHT will make a $2,500.00 donation on the school’s behalf to Purple Heart Homes,Gold Corner Chapter.  https://www.purplehearthomesusa.org

Operation Hat Trick Founder and President Dot Sheehan presented the Excellence in Service Awards in San Diego.

Clemson University was one of five finalists honored by OHT.  The others were The University of San Diego, The University of Nebraska, The University of Minnesota and Utah State University.  Each school is donating its OHT cash award to special veterans’ focused causes. The winning schools were chosen based on their efforts to fully integrate OHT on their campuses through a presence in their bookstores and other retail outlets; promoting veterans’ causes through their social media properties and advertising campaigns; and generating additional revenue that will be used to support the recovery of wounded service members and veterans.

Clemson University’s fund raising efforts leveraged “Purple Out” for its Military Appreciation Day football game to raise awareness for OHT.  Campaign elements included co-branded Clemson and OHT gear at retail, storytelling content on social media, video board displays during games and in-store signage for local retailers.  The school also produced a special Clemson/OHT video.  Sales of the co-branded merchandise increased 281% year-over-year.

A portion of each sale of OHT branded merchandise is donated to select organizations that support the recovery of wounded service members and veterans. Through the sale of branded merchandise and member donations, Operation Hat Trick donations have helped dozens of organizations that provide direct services and support to wounded service members and veterans. These include: Project Sanctuary, The Yellow Ribbon Fund, Easter Seals/Veterans Count, the Navy SEAL Foundation Semper Fi Fund, the Warrior Bonfire Project, Liberty House, Ironstone Farm, Mac-v Veterans Alliance, Homes for Our Troops, and Idaho Veterans Garden,Finally Home and others.

OHT founder Dot Sheehan said “We’re very proud of Clemson University for its commitment to making a difference for wounded and recovering warriors and for promoting OHT on campus, at retail, in the community and through its marketing, public relations, social media and advertising initiatives.  Together we are making each veteran’s life as good as it can be.”
