Marc Wilson joined the Clemson staff as an assistant coach in April of 2013 and is in his second season with the program, coming to the Lady Tigers from UAB along with Head Coach Audra Smith. Wilson was at UAB for four seasons, and brings experience with previous career stops in the Big Ten, A-10, C-USA, and MAC.
Wilson serves as the defensive coordinator, while also working with the post players. Wilson’s defensive principles have been a reason for great success at each of his stops in his career. At UAB, the Blazers ranked in the top-50 in the nation in scoring defense in each of the three most recent seasons.
In the season prior to his arrival, the program was 297th nationally in scoring defense. In his first season, UAB moved up more than 100 spots, and in his third season, the team was allowing nearly 20 points per game fewer and ranked 3rd in the nation at 49.1 ppg.
Wilson has recruited or coached three WNBA draft picks, including Janel McCarville, who went No. 1 overall in 2005, and Lindsay Whalen, who went No. 4 overall in 2005.
Wilson was a four-year letterwinner and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1986 with totals of 1,386 points and 375 assists, earning All-Big Ten honorable mention honors twice.
