CLEMSON, S.C. – The men’s and women’s teams opened the season in fine fashion, securing team victories at Saturday’s Clemson Cross Country Invitational. Paced by five total top-five individual finishes, the Tigers won the three-mile women’s point tally and four-mile race on the men’s side. Furman was runner-up in both team competitions.
Fifth-year senior Aaron Ramirez had the top individual showing, placing second overall in the men’s race with a time of 19:54.48. Roland Hakes was third with a time of 20:18.92. Josh Davis (20:37.19) and freshman Chris Cummings (20:38.05) posted top 10s for the Tigers as well. Jack Andritsch was the fifth scorer in 12th place.
Grace Barnett led three women inside the top five on Saturday. The sophomore from Pawleys Island, S.C., posted a three-mile time of 18:18.79. Fellow sophomores Evie Tate (18:22.40) and Catherine Herring (18:36.72) rounded out the top five. Alexa Womack (11th) and Emily Lewis (14th) also posted scoring efforts for Clemson’s women Saturday.
The Tigers have a week off before returning to action Saturday, Sept. 13 in the Furman Classic.
