Tigers Well Positioned for Finals After Day One at ACC Championships
By: Clemson Athletic Communications
Release:  05/16/2014

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson women's rowing team finished second in two of three races on Friday night in the heats of the ACC Championships held on Lake Hartwell. All three Clemson crews advanced to the grand final of their respective races.

Racing was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. but was delayed until 7:30 p.m. due to high winds on the lake. The Tigers' Varsity 4+ crew started the evening with a third-place finish in the opening race of the championship in tough racing conditions.

Clemson then got a second-place finish from its Second Varsity 8+ crew in its first race of the weekend. The Tigers got behind Virginia but pulled away from Duke in the latter portions of the race to finish comfortably in second.

The final Clemson race of the day was a tightly contested battle between Clemson and Duke for second place. Duke led for a large portion of the race but the Tigers fought through the wind to overtake the Blue Devils in the final stretch of the race.

The team returns to action on Saturday morning for the ACC Championship finals beginning at 8:02 a.m. with the Third Varsity 8+ final.
