Clemson Fifth After First Round of Dick's Challenge Cup

NASHVILLE, TN - Freshman Carson Young shot a two-under-par 69 in the opening round of the Dick's Challenge Cup at the Golf Club of Tennessee near Nashville. Clemson stands in fifth place out of 10 SEC and ACC schools after the first round on the par 71 course.

Georgia has the lead at 10 under par 274 after the first round. Clemson finished with a team total of 287, second best among the five ACC teams in the field.

The 10 teams, five from the ACC and five from the SEC, will play 54 holes, then will pair up for a match play round on Sunday.

Young had five birdies, a double bogey and a bogey in shooting his first career round in the 60s. He got off to a rough start as he was two-over through the first six holes. He then had four birdies and eight pars over the last 12 holes. He had a 33 on the front nine, his second nine of the day.

Stephen Behr had an even par 71, as he had four birdies, a double bogey and a bogey in shooting his even par round. Miller Capps had a wild ride with six bogeys and four birdies in shooting a two over 73.

Freshman Austin Langdale shot a 74. He got off to a rough start and was five over through the first seven holes. He then made an eagle on the 17th hole to get back on track. He shot even par golf over the last 11 holes.

Cody Proveaux, Clemson's top golfer entering the tournament, shot a 76 and his score did not count towards Clemson's team score.
