Tiger Track & Field Closes Out Regular Season Saturday
Clemson's top two performers from Friday at Georgia Tech - Spencer Adams and Brianna Rollins - did not compete in the finals after strong performances in the preliminary round. Dezerea Bryant took second place in the women's 100 dash final. She posted a time of 11.54, despite a -1.5 meters per second headwind. In the men's 200, freshman Tevin Hester also claimed the runner-up position. He was the top collegiate finisher after running a time of 21.03 into a slight headwind. He was also fourth in the 100 dash final.
Miller produced yet another personal best in the 400-meter dash. The Murrells Inlet, SC native ran to a time of 45.88 and was second among all competitors, but the top collegian Saturday at the George C. Griffin Track Complex.
Land earned a runner-up finish at Georgia Tech in the women's high jump. The freshman out of Albany, GA cleared a season-best 5'10" on her second attempt. Also in the vertical jumps, Lauren Terstappen and Caroline Bond were third and fourth in the pole vault, both at 12'10.25".
Fountain was runner-up in the heptathlon at the University of Virginia. She had a total of 5,185 points, a personal best and the sixth-best tally in school history. Fountain opened a little slow in the long jump, but unleashed a solid mark (19'0.5") on her final attempt. She carried it over to the javelin, where she threw a personal best 114'7".
Aaron Ramirez was second place in the 800 meters at UVA. The junior from Piedmont, SC posted a time of 1:50.99. In the women's 5K, Natalie Anthony secured sixth place with a run of 16:32.55. She did not improve on her season-best, but will await word on a potential spot in the NCAA East Preliminary field in two weeks.
Clemson will make its NCAA declarations over the next week and prepare for the East Preliminary Round, scheduled for May 23-25 in Greensboro, NC.
