Clemson Rowing to Open 2013 Season on Saturday on Lake Hartwell

CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson women's rowing team will begin their 2013 season on Saturday, March 9 at 9:00 AM when they host Duke and Eastern Michigan on Lake Hartwell.  Admission is free.

"Our team has had a fantastic fall and winter of training, and we are looking forward to racing Eastern Michigan and Duke this Saturday," said Clemson Head Coach Robbie Tenenbaum. "This year's team is really focused and everyone is excited to race for the first time this season. Our team leaders have really stepped up and we are all focused on helping this team to be the best Clemson rowing team in our history."

The regatta will feature five races starting at 9:00 AM with 1st Varsity 8's race. The 2nd Varsity 8's will follow at 9:20 before the 1st Varsity 4's will take the water at 9:40. The 2nd Varsity 4's will then compete at 10:00 followed by the Novice 8's in final race of the morning at 10:20.

"This will be the first race ever for our Novice group," Tenenbaum said. "They have worked hard and smart under the guidance of our Novice Coach Melanie Onufrieff. Everyone on the team is looking forward to watching this group represent our team and the University." 

This will be the fifth straight season and eighth time in nine years that Clemson has opened the season at home against Eastern Michigan. Last season, Clemson finished first in both races against the Eagles. 

Clemson competed against Duke in the ACC Championships last season. The Tigers finished ahead of the Blue Devils in all four races and finished second ahead of Duke in third in the team results.
