CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson women's rowing team swept Eastern Michigan in three races on Saturday morning on Lake Hartwell. It was the first sweep for the Tigers since taking all four races against Alabama last season.
Clemson started the day with 1st Varsity 8+ taking first ahead of its fellow 2nd Varsity 8+ squad. The two battled each other early before the 1V8 pulled ahead to take the victory with a time of 6:55.50. The Tigers' 2V8 finished second with a time of 7:08.52 while Eastern Michigan's 1V8 and 2V8 finished in third and fourth place, respectively.
The Tigers followed that race with a tightly contested Varsity 4s race between the Clemson 1st Varsity 4+ and 2nd Varsity 4+. The two got out to a quick to pull away from the Eastern Michigan and would remain neck-and-neck with one another for much of the race.
In the end, Clemson's 2V4 was able to create just enough space between the two to take the victory. The Tigers' 2V4 finished that contest with a time of 7:49.32 followed by the 1V4 with a time of 7:54.00.
The final race of the day saw Clemson's 1st Novice 8+ and 2nd Novice 8+ battle to complete the Clemson sweep. The 1N8 would go on to take the victory with a time of 7:30.09 ahead of the 2N8 with a time of 7:36.15.
The Tigers will return to action in two weeks on March 15 when they host Syracuse and the Boston University lightweight squads on Lake Hartwell at 9:00 AM.
