ATHENS, GA - The Clemson women's diving team concluded the Georgia Invite on Sunday by competing in the platform event. The meet was the Tigers' first of 2014 and first since knocking off South Carolina in a dual meet on December 18.
"The Georgia Diving Invite was a great learning experience for our ladies," said Clemson Head Coach Leslie Hasselbach Adams. "This is a highly competitive meet and our young team is walking away from this competitive experience with many aspects to be very proud of accomplishing. This meet was a great evaluation tool for us we head into the last half of our season. It was also a great motivator for our team and coaching staff."
Jessica Resler led the Tigers on final day in Athens, GA with a 10th-place finish after recording a score of 207.10. It was her second straight top-10 finish in the platform event at an invitational. With her score today, she now owns three of the top five platform scores in school history.
Megan Helwagen was the second highest Clemson finisher with a score of 197.97 to finish 13th out of 29 divers. Emily Yoder finished 16th with a score of 187.85, a season-high in the platform. Sarah Braun followed her finishing 18th with a 184 .70 while Emily Howard finished 23rd with a 162.20.
LSU had a strong showing on the final day with two divers finishing in the top five, including taking the top spot, while Georgia put two divers inside the top 10. Clemson had the highest finish by a diver from an ACC school each of the three days.
Earlier in the weekend, on Friday, Emily Howard finished 19th with a score of 241.40 to led the Tigers in the one-meter event. On Saturday, Juliana Melchionda turned in a solid performance in the three-meter event with a score of 251.60 to finish 21st overall.
This was the final invitational meet of the season for the Tigers. They will return to action on January 18 when they host College of Charleston and Western Kentucky in a dual meet at 1:30 PM at McHugh Natatorium.
