CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson women's diving team recorded a strong performance in their season opener against Richmond and Georgia Southern on Saturday at McHugh Natatorium. The Tigers took first place in both events.
Sophomore Megan Helwagen just missed qualifying for NCAA Zones (265) with a mark of 264.10 to win the one-meter event. In the three-meter, junior Chelsea Uranaka finished first with a score of 257.35.
"I am excited with how we performed today," said Clemson Head Coach Leslie Hasselbach Adams. "It was a good start in our first meet of the season. We needed to come out and set the bar and I thought we did just that."
The three-meter event saw Uranaka finish first ahead of Richmond's Irina Chiulli in second with a 249.90 and Sara Meisenhelder of Georgia Southern in three with a 239.75. Tigers Emily Howard and Jessica Resler finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Emily Yoder and Heather Britt each finished in top 10 in the event.
The Tigers took the top six spots in the one-meter event. Juliana Melchionda finished second with a score of 253.45 behind Helwagen. Howard finished third with a 251.65 while Uranaka finished fourth recording a 244.85.
Freshman Sarah Braun finished fifth with a score of 234.30 in her first collegiate meet. Jessica Resler finished sixth with a career-high score of 229.85. Tabitha Banks also finished in the top 10 in the three-meter with a score of 221.15.
Clemson returns to the pool next Saturday when they travel to Davidson, NC to take on Davidson and VMI at 1:00 PM.
