SARASOTA, Fla. – Clemson took first place in three of the five races it competed in during the first day of the Sunshine State Invite on Friday. Tiger crews finished on top of the field in the 2V4, 1V4 and 2V8, with the largest margin of victory coming in the 2V4.
The 2V4 was the first race of the afternoon, and Megan Kauffeld’s crew bested University of Central Florida, who the Tigers will see again in the Clemson Invitational next weekend, by six seconds with their time of 7:27.80. The 1V4 came next, and Clemson again topped second-place UCF, with Katie Herbolsheimer’s crew’s time of 7:24.70 edging the Knights by four seconds.
The eights began with the 3V8, and Julia Suplick’s crew’s time of 7:07.59 was only bettered by UNC. Clemson came out on top in the 2V8, as Erin Murphy’s crew posted a time of 6:41.50 to top Tulsa by two seconds. The last race of the afternoon was the 1V8, and Sarasota native Emily Goff’s crew placed third, behind Tulsa and UCF, with a time of 6:35.95.
Action continues tomorrow starting at 8:00 a.m. with the 1V8.
