Overview: Sophomore All-American who won the 2017 United States Amateur….that victory gave him opportunity to play in three PGA Tour events this spring, allowing him to play just six events for Clemson this year…finishing this season strong, he has consecutive second place finishes at ACC Tournament and NCAA Regional entering the NCAA National…is 24 under par for his last six rounds…his 202 at ACC Tournament was lowest in Clemson history at the conference tournament…shot 10 under 206 in finishing second at NCAA Regional….had legitimate chance to win both tournaments….for his Clemson career has played 19 tournaments and 57 rounds…has shot under par in 34 of those 57 rounds…has shot 75 or better in 54 of 57…his score has counted 56 of 57 career rounds…Clemson’s career leader in stroke average at 70.61, his 70.28 stroke average entering national is on pace to break D.J. Trahan's 70.33 average in 2001-02 is better for a completed seson…  started every tournament as a freshman and his score  counted in all 39 rounds …set record for most rounds in a season in which every round counted…first freshman to win two tournaments in same year, never mind in the fall…set countless Clemson records, including tying the mark for the low round with a 63 at the Jackrabbit in his second career event and fourth career round…(that has since been broken by teammate and classmate William Nottingham)….Doc finished with a 198 at the Ka'anapali Classic, the record 54-hole score by three shots … Clemson’s highest ranked player by Golfstat and Sagarin, he was #31  in  final Golfweek ranking.... reached match play at the 2016 U.S. Amateur a few days before coming to Clemson, he has reached match play at the US Amateur each of the last two years…won 2016 North Carolina 4A High School championship….Rolex honorable mention All-American in high school.

Professional Events, Spring 2018:   Played in three PGA Tournaments this spring, the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Orlando, The Masters and the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, SC…made the cut at the Arnold Palmer and the Heritage, but missed at Masters by three shots…finished tied for 71st at Arnold Palmer, he had three straight even par round before a closing 77…would have won $18,000 at Arnold Palmer…shot 76-77 at Augusta, he had one over 37 on front side each round…finished tied for 69th after two rounds…finished 50th with 283 score at Heritage, he had consistent rounds of 71-71-69-72…would have won $16,000 had he not been an amateur.

2017-18:   Ranked 20th in nation by Golfweek and 32nd by Golfstat entering the NCAA Championship…first-team All-ACC for second straight year…has 70.28 stroke average, on pace to be best in Clemson history for a season…has shot under par in 12 of 18 rounds, has eight rounds in the 60s…shot 75 or better in 17 of 18 rounds…has incredible 69.17 stroke average in final rounds this year…has 3.99 average on par four holes…has 76 birdies in six tournaments, including 16 birdies and an eagle in each of his last two events…ranked 10th in the nation in subpar strokes/round at 4.1, is 18th in score vs. par at -1.22 and 20th in scoring average at 70.28…23rd in par five scoring at 4.56 and 25th in par four scoring at 3.98…has three top five finishes in his six tournaments so far this year…hits fairway 75 percent and GIR is 73 percent…averages 30.55 putts per round…posted 71.22 stroke average for his three tournaments and nine rounds in the fall… had a fall best 67 at the Nike Elite on October 1….got off to a slow start at Trinity Forest with a 59th place finish, he was a bit fatigued after his US Amateur run and participation in the Walker Cup…led Clemson in each of the last two tournaments of the fall, he finished fifth at Nike Elite with a 204 score, and 30th at the Golf Club of Georgia with a 213… joined a small group of players in Clemson history with three straight rounds in the 60s in the same tournament when he went 69-67-68 at the Nike Elite October 1-3…then finished strong with 70-70 at Golf club of Georgia…played in just one regular season tournament in the spring, he was big reason Clemson won the Puerto Rico Classic in February….made birdie on his last two holes to give Clemson a one-shot victory over Oklahoma….Clemson came back from eight shots down entering the final round…played in the ACC Tournament and NCAA Regional for Clemson and was combined 24 under par with a pair of second place finishes…shot in the 60s in five of the six rounds, he has streak of seven straight under par rounds entering NCAA National…has 68.0 stroke average for his last six rounds, all in postseason play…his 202 at ACC Tournament broke John Engler’s record of 203 set in 2001.

Summer of 2017:   First golfer in Clemson history to be finalist at Western Amateur and the US Amateur...won US Amateur at Riviera in dramatic fashion...won over Doug Ghim in 37 holes, he was two down with two to play...made 60-foot putt for eagle to win 17, then made 9-footer to win 18th hole and force extra holes...made conceded birdie on the 10th hole, the first extra hole, to claim the title...had to negotiate a 13 for 8 spots playoff just to get into match play...just third US Amateur Champion who had to survive playoff to get into match play, first since 2012...with No. 62 seed, second lowest seed to win the US Amateur...had streak of 12 straight one-putt greens on opening 18 holes of the championship match...ranked 70th worldwide in World Amateur Rankings entering the US Amateur...started summer with #21 finish at Sunnehanna Amateur....finished 6th at Northeast Amateur and 10th at Southern Amateur...also finished 23rd at Players Amateur...lost in finals of Western Amateur to Norman Xiong of the University of Oregon in 22 holes.

2016-17:    Led Clemson in stroke average all year, he finished with 70.77 figure, second best in Clemson history and 19th best in the nation...ranked 15th in nation in scoring average vs. par at -0.77…#8 in the nation in eagles with eight, #10 in birdies with 154 and #6 in subpar strokes per hole with 4.36…had Clemson freshman record eight top 10 finishes, that total is tied for third in Clemson history…tied for team lead in rounds in the 60s with 11, that is tied for ninth in school history…his 22 under-par rounds are tied for fourth most in school history and his 24 rounds at par or better  tied for 10th most in a season… scored 75 or better in 38 of his 39 rounds this season…30-under-par for his 39 rounds as a freshman…got off to a great start in tournaments, he had a 70.23  stroke average in opening rounds…led team in par four scoring at 4.02, 20th best in the nation...had best score of the day 14 times and was Clemson's best player in four tournaments…drove the ball in fairway 72 percent of the time, and hit greens in regulation 69 percent of the time…led the Tigers in scoring average in his first semester with a 70.13 average, one of the best fall averages in Clemson history. … won the Jackrabbit with a 203 score, 13-under-par…that included an opening round 63 that tied the Clemson single round record at the time…in final fall event won the Ka'anapali Classic in Hawaii with a Clemson record 198 for 54 holes… had scores of 66-68-64 to win the event with a 15-under par score…he tied the record for score vs. par at a 54-hole event as well….began the fall with an 11th place score at the Carpet Classic after shooting 210 for 54 holes… shot -19 for the 15 rounds in the fall …had a 63, a 64 and a 66 in the fall… had 18 birdies in Hawaii when he won at Ka'anapli, that tied for most birdies by a Clemson golfer in a tournament this year…had the Clemson freshman record for eagles by the end of the fall, he finished with eight… had six straight top seven finishes from last tournament of the fall through the Wolfpack Spring Open…best finish of the spring was second-place at the Palmetto Intercollegiate…also finished fourth at Furman, sixth at Clemson Invitational and seventh at Wolfpack Spring Open…dipped to 18th at the ACC Tournament, but came back with ninth-place finish off even par at the NCAA Regional…shot 73 or better in 23 or 24 rounds in the spring…shot even or better in nine of his 13 tournaments, including six of eight in the spring.

Summer of 2016: Reached the second round of match play at the 2016 U.S. Amateur…shot 141 in the stroke play off rounds of 69-72 for 141 total to finish 41st, then defeated Noah Goodman 2-up…lost in second round to Sam Horsfield of the University of Florida…qualifier for the 2016 U.S. Amateur with a 138 total at qualifier at Carolina Trace…had rounds of 71-67 to finish third…finished a strong second at the Palmetto Amateur in July, 2016 with a six-under-par score…also played in the North-South Amateur at Pinehurst and the Porter Cup in summer of 2016, two major amateur events…showed his capabilities with seven rounds in the 60s, including four at 67 or better, in major amateur events.

In High School: Won 2016 North Carolina 4A State High School Championship with a 140 total after rounds of 71-69…also won regional in 2016…shot nine-under-par 63 in the final round that included and eagle and seven birdies in winning the 2016 regional…he had finished second by one shot at the regional title in 2015, and second by two shots as an individual at the state championship…finished fifth at Sage Valley Junior Invitational with an even par 216 score, he was tied for 10th in 2015…Rolex honorable mention All-American in 2015…finished fifth at the 2015 Carolinas Amateur…finished in top five of the Bobby Chapman in 2015... all-state all four years of high school…ranked eighth overall and second in the 2016 class in the Golfweek Junior Boys Rankings as of August 1, 2016…rated 26th by the Junior Golf Scoreboard…reached round of 16 at the US.
