Rowing Records Strong Performance at Head of the Oklahoma
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The women's rowing team finished first in three of four races on Saturday at the Head of the Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, OK. The Tigers' 1st Varsity 8+ squad finished first overall for the second straight year.
"I was very happy with our teams performance in Oklahoma City," said Clemson Head Coach Robbie Tenenbaum. "We faced some strong competition and were able to come away with some great results. Our team has been working hard to get better this fall. This was our first test to see where we are both in our technical abilities and in our fitness level."
The Tigers started the day off with a win in the 1st Varsity 8+ race. The 1V8 finished first with a time of 14:36.418 ahead of Kansas in second and Oklahoma A in third. The Tigers finished more than 13 seconds ahead of the Jayhawks and 23 seconds ahead of the Sooners in the 4,000-meter race.
Later in the afternoon, the Clemson 1st Varsity 4+ followed suit taking first place in their event. The Tigers' recorded a time of 16:03.782 to top Tulsa A in second and Oklahoma in third.
Both squads returned for the 500-meter, night sprint races. The Tigers' 1st Varsity 8+ squad would edge Oklahoma A and Oklahoma B on their home course for the first-place finish. The 1V8 has now won each of their four races at the Head of the Oklahoma over the past two seasons.
Clemson's 1st Varsity 4+ went for sweep of the day but fell just short. The Tigers finished second just two seconds behind the Oklahoma A squad.
The Tigers will return to action on October 19-20 when they travel to Boston, MA for the Head of the Charles.
