Position: Senior Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach
David Abernethy is entering his seventh year serving as Senior Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Clemson University. Abernethy coordinates the nutrition and supplementation program for all student-athletes and will also coordinate all technology associated with Tiger Strength Training that includes such devices as media boards, Dartfish video technology and Tendo units used while training. His primary focus is working with the offensive line and tight ends.

Abernethy served as the Director of Strength & Conditioning for Western Kentucky University from 2003-2005. He was in charge of all 20 varsity teams and worked directly with football and men's basketball.

Abernethy left for Western Kentucky after serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Mississippi under Ruben Mendoza from 2001-2003. He served under Batson at Clemson for two years as a graduate assistant from 1999-2001.

Abernethy played football at Western Carolina where he was a two-year letterman at right guard. He played for the Catamounts after transferring from Methodist College, where he was also a two-year letterman at left tackle and won the rookie of the year award.

Abernethy graduated from Western Carolina in 1999 with a bachelor of science degree. He received his master's degree from Western Kentucky in Exercise Science. He also completed graduate work in education at Clemson from 1999-2001.

He is a certified member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the National Association of Speed and Explosion and is certified through the American Fitness Professionals Association as a Certified Sports Nutrition Consultant.

Abernethy is married to the former Kelli Iddings of Denver, NC and the couple has a daughter, Madilyn (7), and a son, Brooks David (3).
